CMDA
Chennai, the capital City of Tamil Nadu is the fourth largest Metropolitan City in India.
The expanded Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA) comprises the Greater Chennai Corporation, Avadi Corporation, Tambaram Corporation, Kancheepuram Corporation, 12 Municipalities, 13 Town Panchayats, 1 Special Grade Town Panchayat and 22 Panchayat Unions (Comprised of 1321 villages). The present extent of CMA is 5904 Sq.km.

DTCP
Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN) enacted Town & Country Planning Act (T&CP Act), 1971 by repealing Town Planning Act 1920. The Directorate of Town & Country Planning (DTCP) headed by the Director is functioning under the TamilNadu T&CP Act, 1971. It functions under the control of Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UD) of the Secretariat. The department has its jurisdiction over the entire Tamil Nadu except Chennai Metropolitan Development Area (CMDA).

VILLAGE PANCHAYAT UNION
“Village government council” are political divisions of Tamil Nadu towns that have population of 500 or more. They are responsible for running and maintaining the public infrastructure at the local level. As of 2020, there are a total of 12,524 panchayat councils in Tamil Nadu.
